Typical application of silane coupling agent in ink and coating industry
The application of silane in coatings mainly focuses on three aspects: for primer to enhance the adhesion between substrate and coating; for improving the dispersion of pigment or filler in solvent based coatings or waterborne coatings; for modifying coating resin to make new functional coatings. Silane is used as an additive to improve adhesion, which makes the coating bonded to different substrates. This combination not only reduces the corrosion and peeling of paint film in wet environment, but also improves the scratch resistance and environmental resistance.
Silane is widely used in acrylic resin, epoxy resin and polyurethane coatings. It is effective in solvent based, high solid and water-based coatings. It can be used as both primer and additive. Silane can also act as pigment dispersant and adhesive in coatings, which can be firmly combined with various inorganic pigments and fillers. Once silanes are attached to the surface of the filler, they can reduce the viscosity of the coating, improve the dispersion of the filler, thus improving the covering power and the durability and brushing of the coating.
